The letterforms are simple and robust with only minimal stroke contrast. The inkiness in the slab serifs is downplayed to create an Arabic typeface that works with both Brando and Brando Sans. Buendia is an exploration into what a type family can be beyond the traditional suite of progressive weights and widths. It is the graduation project from César Puertas when he was enrolled at the KABK Type & Media master course. He structured his unique series into six styles with distinct but matching flavors: grotesque, rounded, slab-serif and transitional.

The Alterego type family started in 2001 by layering the same bitmap letters on top of each other in Photoshop, then playing with transparency and layer sequence. In 2010 a previous version was released as part of Bold Monday’s Pixel Package, but was discontinued. Nevertheless, van Rosmalen didn’t want to let it disappear completely as he was still fond of the typeface — in fact, it’s one of his favorites.
Bilo
Bilo is a grotesque in the literal sense of the term. Pieter van Rosmalen challenges many of the common design practices that aim for smooth curves and harmoniously progressing rounds. The ‘o’ or ‘e’ in the bolder styles, for instance, are not circular but rather egg-shaped ovals. In lighter styles, the sharp curves are also visible in round characters giving Bilo an unusual and charming feel.

Nitti Typewriter, a relative of our Nitti series, is a playful nod to the aesthetics of typewriters in five flavors: Normal, Open, Underlined, Corrected, and Cameo. The family is based on monospaced Nitti and has its roots in the first sans-serif designs of the nineteenth century—the Grotesques.

Nitti Grotesk is the proportional companion to Nitti and part of a larger collection of Grotesque-inspired typefaces by Pieter van Rosmalen. The series originates in his sans-serif called Capone, which evolved into the display family Stanley, and a monospaced version that became Nitti, named after Francesco Raffaele Nitto, one of Al Capone’s henchmen.

Oskar is a all-caps type series inspired by Dutch architectural and commercial letterings from the early 20th century, particularly those painted on walls and shopfronts or executed in metal.
